Paris has become one of the best cities in the world for escape games. The TERPECA ranking, compiled each year by the votes of expert players who have done hundreds of rooms worldwide, placed two Paris rooms in its top 20 in 2025. Here are the addresses that matter, followed by an experience that extends the genre differently.

1. Deep Inside, Le Taxidermiste

The best-ranked French room ever. Le Taxidermiste came 12th worldwide at TERPECA 2025, the best result achieved by a French room, and the same year swept both best newcomer and best room at the Escape Game Awards.
The story takes you thirty metres beneath Paris, into an underground city hiding a taxidermy shop. The long format — 90 minutes instead of the usual 60 — leaves room for genuine narrative construction: the tension builds rather than arriving in jolts. What players cite first is the sound design and the sheer scale of the sets.
This is the Paris high end, price included. Expect 48 to 75 EUR per person. A Full Experience package runs two rooms back to back over two hours.

2. Le Donjon
Around place de la République, Paris 10e and 11e
The company that bet on the actor. You are greeted outside, in character, and the game master stays in character throughout rather than talking to you over a speaker. That is rare in Paris and it changes everything.
Eight rooms, tied together by a narrative thread around Jacques de Molay, last master of the Order of the Temple. The sets are built by professional production designers and progress happens room to room, with secret passages and physical mechanisms rather than combination padlocks. Difficulty is adjusted live to suit the group, which makes the rooms accessible to beginners without boring regulars.
The consistency is impressive: all eight rooms score between 92 and 97% recommendation. Few companies hold that level across an entire catalogue.

3. The Quest Factory, Le Fléau du Druide

A Gaulish inscription uncovered during cellar works, and everything tips into a forgotten mythology. Le Fléau du Druide is one of the best-documented rooms in Paris, with 4.8/5 across more than 500 reviews and an award at the 2024 Escape Game Awards.
What testers consistently single out: the level of detail in the set and the quality of the special effects. The atmosphere stays tense without ever resorting to cheap jump scares, and the gameplay favours physical interaction with the set over paper puzzles. The game master intervenes in character, with appearances that are part of the staging.

4. The Game

Four times best company in Île-de-France at the Escape Game Awards, in 2015, 2016, 2022 and 2023. Eight years of consistency nobody else can show.
The Game builds its sets from real components rather than reconstructions: Le métro is played inside an authentic line 12 carriage, L'avion in a set assembled from A320 fuselage. Twelve universes in total, from heist to western via space and horror, which makes it the best entry point if you do not yet know what you like.
Its real advantage is room duplication. Le métro takes up to 24 players across four simultaneous rooms, L'avion 18 across three. It is the most credible address in Paris for a birthday or a twenty-person seminar, with genuine competition between teams. Le trésor des Templiers, developed with Ubisoft in the Assassin's Creed universe, is one of the few serious licence partnerships on the French market.

5. Lock Academy

A detective school run by Professor Lock, and six investigations sharing the same universe. That connecting thread creates a rare collector's pleasure: you come back for the next one.
It is the best Paris address for playing as a pair, since all six rooms are playable without assigned teammates. It is also one of the best family options in the city, open from age 9 accompanied by an adult, with progressive detective scenarios. At the other end of the spectrum, L'Examen pits players against an artificial intelligence built specifically for the room, a setup that won at the Escape Game Awards.
The pricing grid is one of the clearest on the market: 55 EUR per person for two, 30 EUR for six.

6. And if you are after something else: KIRA

KIRA is not a classic escape game, but it keeps everything that makes you come back to one.
Puzzles. You have to align pre-Columbian symbols on stone wheels, angle mirrors to bend a shaft of sunlight, work out why the number seven keeps recurring. Some only resolve if one player describes out loud what the others cannot see.
Physical handling. A torch you lift off the wall that has weight. A lift crank that resists. A steering wheel that turns. Wall torches that rise back on their own the moment you let go, forcing several people to act at once. Nothing is triggered by a button.
Searching and cooperation. Three roles, three sets of equipment, and nobody gets out alone. The scientist sees symbols invisible to the naked eye thanks to her UV goggles, but it is the adventurer who holds the torch and the mercenary who protects the group. The one holding the information is not the one who can act.
What an escape room cannot do. A plywood set stays a plywood set. At KIRA, virtual reality dresses physical sets built to the exact dimensions of what you see, and you cross in turn an Amazonian jungle, a suspension bridge over a chasm, a Mayan temple and a volcano. The bridge is a real rope bridge. The wind picks up when the truck accelerates, the heat rises as you near the lava, the floor vibrates when the stone door slides open.
And a reason to come back more often. Building a new escape room is expensive and takes months. Since most of KIRA's set lives in the virtual world, a new scenario comes out every three to six months, with a re-cut space and rebuilt sets.
