Free roam is the only way to do virtual reality without a locomotion controller. You walk, your avatar walks. No joystick, no teleportation, and above all no motion sickness — because VR nausea comes precisely from the gap between what the eye sees and what the body feels.
The format is still rare, and the best arenas are not always inside Paris. Here is where to go.

1. Zero Latency, Cormeilles-en-Parisis

The global pioneer of multiplayer free roam, and the richest catalogue in Île-de-France: nine experiences, where most arenas offer two or three.
It is also the only address in the region running major licences, with Far Cry VR developed with Ubisoft and Space Marine in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The range of registers is genuine: zombie, science fiction, horror, competitive, plus two non-violent experiences with Engineerium, an exploration and puzzle game, and Haunted.
An entry ticket at 13 EUR for a short session also makes it the most affordable free roam in the region. Expect 23 EUR for 30 minutes and 33 EUR for 45. Free parking, 15 minutes from La Défense, 25 from Paris via the A15.

2. EVA Paris-Est, Montreuil
145 boulevard Chanzy, 93100 Montreuil
The largest capacity in the region, by some distance. Three 500 m² arenas, up to ten simultaneous players per arena, inside a 3,000 m² building that holds up to 200 people, with a restaurant and a cyberbar.
Opened at the end of 2024, this site is the brand's European headquarters. The 500 m² for ten players format offers the best floor area per player on the Paris market, and you feel it in play: you genuinely run.
EVA is also the only free-roam arena open to children from age 7, thanks to The Lapins Crétins: Color Chaos, developed with Ubisoft, a non-violent paint shooter. The two other arena games, Battle Arena in team competition and Moon of the Dead co-op against zombies, require 12 and 16.
One last advantage, and it counts: seven other EVA sites cover Île-de-France, from Brétigny to Beauchamp via Les Mureaux and Savigny-le-Temple. There is probably one near you.

3. The Gate VR
93 rue d'Amsterdam, Paris 8e
The only multi-room free-roam arena inside Paris proper, walking distance from Saint-Lazare and Place de Clichy. For anyone without a car, that argument settles it.
Opened at the end of 2024 across two floors and 750 m², the venue has three arenas of 80 to 100 m² running in parallel, which avoids dead time when several groups follow each other. The catalogue is the largest in Paris free roam with twelve experiences, and the company has an in-house development studio giving it exclusive content, where most venues run imported licences. Journal du Geek called it a "free-roaming sanctuary".
The positioning is deliberately premium, price included: 29.90 EUR off-peak, 34.90 EUR peak.

4. Seven Squares, La Villette

The cheapest free roam in Paris, and the best first time. A 200 m² arena, up to ten simultaneous players, on Pico 4 headsets, for 15 to 16 EUR a session.
Eight games in the catalogue, including a map of Contagion VR 2145 developed exclusively for this venue. The rest covers horror with Evil Hotel, adventure with La Légende de Faragor, and a VR escape game.
The venue sits inside a 5,000 m² leisure complex combining bowling, laser tag, interactive mini-golf and a trampoline park, open seven days a week with food on site. Very practical for a birthday or a group wanting to chain several activities.
Two honest reservations: the session lasts 20 minutes, the shortest in this comparison, and at weekends and during school holidays the game is assigned rather than chosen.

5. Zero Latency, Dammarie-lès-Lys

Zero Latency's second Île-de-France site, with a feature nobody else offers in France: two large arenas letting two groups of eight play simultaneously, meaning sixteen people at once.
The kit is HTC Vive Focus 3 5K, with no backpack, which noticeably improves comfort over long sessions. The catalogue mirrors the international network's.
It is the smart option for a large group south-east of Paris, alongside a leisure complex housed in the former Cartonnerie.

6. And the free roam that goes further: KIRA

Every arena above shares the same principle: you walk through an empty space, and the headset projects a world into it. That is already far better than a controller. But when you reach out towards a wall, there is nothing there.
KIRA adds three layers on top of free movement.
Physical sets. Built to the exact dimensions of what the headset displays. The suspension bridge over the chasm is a real rope bridge, with planks and ropes, and it moves under your feet.
Connected props. A steering wheel and pedals in the truck, wall torches that pull down and rise back on their own the moment you let go, a lift crank that resists, mirrors you angle by hand, a breath detector. Your hands are tracked directly: there are no controllers at all, not even to act.
Effects that reach the body. The wind picks up when the truck accelerates. The heat rises as you near the lava. The floor vibrates when the stone door slides open. A breath of air brushes past you as a bird goes by.
That combination is what is called hyper-reality — and KIRA is the only venue offering it in France.
The other difference is the content. Free roam has concentrated overwhelmingly on shooting: seven of Zero Latency's nine games, two of EVA's three arena games. KIRA offers a narrative adventure with puzzles, searching and asymmetric roles, in which nobody needs to have played before.

Does it make you feel sick?
Far less than standard VR. Nausea comes from the gap between the motion your eyes perceive and the one your body feels, a gap produced by joystick movement. **In free roam it does not exist.**
